When building a garden shed, the first thing you need to know is that unlike other sheds, the shed should be aesthetically pleasing. You can’t just knock some pieces of wood together and call it a shed in the garden.

That is far more likely to take away the ambience and beauty of the garden. So, you need to locate the shed where it will be both accessible and where it will add some beauty to the overall appearance of the garden.

How Close to a Water Source is the Shed?

In building a garden shed, it is important for you to check how close the shed is to a water source. Since you own a garden already, chances are that you already have a water source that is close to the garden.

Your shed should not be located too close to a water source so as not to expose it to too much humidity and moisture. Since the shed will most likely be used to store your gardening equipments, ensure that it isn’t located too close to a water source. This way, the equipments and the shed don’t rot or become mouldy.

Size of the Garden Shed

This is largely determined by the size of the garden. In building a garden shed, the size shouldn’t look too big for the garden. It should be commensurate. For example, if the garden is about 10m x 10m, the shed shouldn’t be bigger than a 2m x 4m. To see just how big the shed might be, do the measurement using stakes hammered into the soil with ropes marking the edges.

If the size seems okay compared to the size of the garden, then you have a winner. If you are in doubt, always settle for smaller sheds so it doesn’t look too imposing on the garden. Good garden shed plans however, help you pinpoint the exact measurements required per square meter.
