Plans for building a shed

What to Consider With Your Storage Shed Plans

You have plenty of equipment for working in the yard, but you have nowhere to put the items. You want to be able to keep everything in one central location, but all the storage sheds you see at the store do not fit what you need. They either are too small, too large, or do not have what you need inside. If this is the case, then you need to get your own storage shed plans. Building a storage shed is not that difficult. All it takes is understanding exactly what you want in your shed and putting the plans together to make it happen. When you plan, you make sure that the entire process is easier. Think about storage shed plans as a map. If you go driving without a map to a place you have never been, you will just drive around in circles. You will get to your destination, but it will take you twice as long. With proper instructions and plans, you can make building a storage shed much easier.

To plan a good storage shed, you need to do the following:
  1. First of all, make sure you have a good location planned for your storage shed. Have an area of about 15 feet by 15 feet leveled out.  If you cannot level out the ground, you can get leveling blocks, or you can install posts that the shed will sit on. This will take extra time, so try and find a level area to save you a headache.
  2. Your foundation should probably be a wood platform or concrete platform. Either of these will work well. The foundation is going to be the size of your shed, so you also need to make sure that there is room for everything in your shed, without making it cramped inside.
  3. For the walls, make the front and back walls longer than the side walls. One reason you do this is because you will have the door on the front wall, which will take away from some of the space. Of course, you do not need to have your shed in this manner. You can plan it as a square but just make sure you have enough space for everything.
  4. Think about where you want the door. If you have a riding lawnmower in the shed, the door needs to be large enough to get the mower out and allow you to navigate away from the shed. If you have to make a 90 degree turn when you come out of the shed to avoid hitting a tree, then you may not want to put the door there.
  5. In regards to the roof, make sure that there is an overhang. This will reduce leakage into the shed. You can prevent leakage by putting small sheets of tin on the roof or by covering the roof in plastic. Most importantly, you should have the roof slope down to the back so that snow and rain runs off, rather than collecting on the roof.

When you are putting together storage shed plans, think about how you want your shed to look, what you want out of the shed, and where you want to put the shed. Doing this with your storage shed plans will allow you to make a shed you can be proud of.
