Wooden Shed Plans - Pick Up a Pencil before a Hammer
own garden shed is becoming increasingly popular for a number of reasons. More of us are working from home so, for example, a wooden shed can be the ideal solution for the storage of tools or materials or even an office space.
With the housing market being as it is, we are increasingly looking at ways to improve our own homes and making better use of the space or land available to us. So whether it’s clearing clutter out of the house or garage or creating a working space, wooden sheds are definitely a consideration.
Anyway, how hard can it be? It’s only a wooden frame and some cladding after all. In truth, it’s not difficult if you have any sort of ability with a saw and hammer. Where I see DIY shed projects go wrong is where people jump in, buy a load of timber and start trying to work it out as they go along. Nine time out of ten this just doesn’t work. Either the end product doesn’t look as good as the picture you had in your head when you started out, you compromise on the finish because the build takes longer than it should and you waste a whole bunch of materials because it wasn’t planned right from the start.
Wooden shed plans are not that expensive. Sure if you are technically minded you could design your own but why go to the bother? There are plenty of wooden shed plans out there and they’re not that expensive. Better still, if you buy a package you get some ideas that you may not have considered.
When buying wooden shed plans, there are a number of important points to consider:
- How good are they? Do they take you through the build process step by step?
- How good are the images provided?
- Are they detailed yet easily understood?
- Do they provide a detailed materials list?
- Do they provide and equipment list?
- Are they reasonably priced?
- Do they detail the requirements for the foundations?
- DO they give advice on the skills you will require to complete the project and assess the degree of difficulty for each plan?
A properly constructed shed will last for years in properly maintained. It will also enhance the look of your garden and give you a useable space. There is no point in having a lovely home only to devalue it by throwing together an eyesore that will trouble you every time you look at it. So invest in good wooden shed plans and build something to be proud of.
